Northern Neck Real Estate

ken&moses3I have found that there are 2 things those visiting my site are interested in. The first is the ability to look at property. I have provided that by opening up the Northern Neck MLS to you. My clients and customers like that for many reasons but primarily because of the interest in or fear of reason number 2, the realtor. So I guess this is my time to sell you on Ken Smith and tell you who I am.

I am a native of the Northern Neck. I grew up here, graduated from school here, and have watched all the changes, both for good and not so good, in the 6 decades of my life. Shortly after graduation and much to the disappointment of my parents I joined the Marine Corps. I think fear is what drove that disappointment as I was deployed to Vietnam for a year.

After returning home my intentions were to use my GI Bill and get an education but after spending several months in school I realized that I would never be happy unless I was in the Northern Neck and 4 years of school was not going to stand in the way of my happiness.

I returned home, got a job, and it wasn’t long before I realized that I was much too independent to be confined to regular hours and a workplace. Again to my parents disappointment I quit my job and went to my real love in the Northern Neck, the water. I spent the next 25 years working as full time waterman either crabbing, fishing, or oystering. They were the happiest days of my life as I watched the mornings come to life, the sun rise out of the water to my east, and felt the comfort of knowing there is a Creator.

Somewhere in the late 80’s the Bay’s vast bounty of oysters started dying and by the early 90’s it was impossible to make a winter’s work oystering. About 15 years ago I came to the realization that the glory days of working on the Bay were gone and I knew that I had to make a career change. Why did I choose real estate? Truthfully I did it because I looked around and saw some of the people that were making a living at it and I my thoughts were if that idiot can do it then I sure as hell can.

It was a little more to it than that but I was confident that my many years of working on the water could be a real asset when showing people waterfront property as I knew water depths and understood such things as tides, winds, and storms.

I realize that a real estate purchase is not an impulse decision so I’m far from being pushy. I like to let my clients take their time and hope they will use me for the knowledge I can provide.

Please don’t hesitate to call if you need help. Please feel free to search the Northern Neck MLS. If you email me or call; tell me what you would like to find. I’ll be glad to conduct a search and email you the results. You’ll get it and I promise I won’t pester you to come look at property. As a matter of fact the search results I send will have street address and even driving directions. All I ask is that when you do see something you like that you ask me to represent you as your agent. I am a strong believer that an agent’s primary obligation is to his client and I pledge to protect and promote the interests of you, my client.
